Geological hammer on snow-covered Arctic rock

Trap-Constrained Seismic Reliability Control

The challenge

Igneous bodies and salt distort the seismic response, so a structure can look more certain than it is.

The work

Before a structural model is trusted, the data behind it has to be tested. In areas shaped by salt tectonics and magmatism, the seismic image can mislead.

The approach combines seismic, gravity-magnetic and well data, and ties satellite-imagery interpretation of island outcrops and faults to field expedition data and stratigraphic drilling. The result shows where the image is reliable, where it is not, and where new data would actually change the decision.

The workflow
Test the image first, then decide where new data changes the decision.
01
Test the image
Locate where igneous bodies or salt overlap the targets, then test the seismic against well ties, surface geology and gravity-magnetic modelling.
02
Reliability map
Classify the area by reliability, with the reason for each zone.
03
Survey recommendation
For each weak zone, which new data would actually change the decision.
